Co-taught class with my colleague, Edek Sher.
The course is broken into three units, each with an accompanying project due at the end of each unit. The sections are titled Capturing, Manipulating, and Making from Scratch. In each section students are challenged to critically think about the ways in which the tools they use affect their creations, and are encouraged to incorporate these thoughts into their projects. Capturing explores the tools and contemporary theories surrounding the digitization of the physical world. Manipulating focuses on the tools and possibilities of creating art that uses found sources-- and previously created material -- as source material for new creations. Making from Scratch explores the processes and implications of creating media within a virtual world. These sections are followed by an open-ended final project due which engages with the theories and skills touched on in the previous projects.
